Capital Improvements Projects
What are Capital Improvement Projects
Capital Improvement Projects are key infrastructure such as water pipelines,
pump stations, wells, reservoirs and sewer lines. These key infrastructures
help provide our customers with a safe water supply and dependable waste
management.
The City Alhambra
The City of Alhambra Utilities Department serves more than 85 thousand
people in a service area of little more than 7 square miles. In addition
the water department maintains over 300 miles of pipelines, 7 Sewer Lift
stations 8 reservoirs, and 12 Well and pump stations.
Why Capital Improvements Projects?
By the turn of the new millennia, many parts of the City's existing water
infrastructure had begun to show signs of wear and tear. Many of the existing
Utilities infrastructure cannot keep pace of increasing demands due to
population increases and business growth. Along with new guidelines from
the state and federal governments, that required significant upgrades
to treat and deliver water. In 1999, The Alhambra Utilities Department
began a Engineering study to determine the most necessary improvements
that the city needed to do, to continue its top notch water delivery system.
Through strict local government oversight, the Utilities department have
developed a strategic plan for the water supply - a blueprint for insuring
City's ability to reliably treat and deliver clean and safe water to homes
and businesses. The study resulted in a strategic plan outlining a multi-million
dollar Capital Improvements Projects (CIP) to address critical water infrastructure
needing improvement and or upgrade:
- Upgrades and expansion of water treatment plants
- Replacement and rehabilitation of aging and broken pipelines
- Construction of new and upgrade of existing pump stations
- Improvements or replacement of storage tanks and reservoirs
